Which Hogwarts house?
We did a very spring break thing with our kids this spring and we went to Florida as a family! Not only this, but we took one day to go to Universal Studios and visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We have been listening to the books on tape lately, and it was seriously magical to get to see Hogwarts, visit Olivander’s to get wands, decide what houses we each belong to, and just generally be transported into a magical world for a day. Did I get myself my own wand? I sure did. And I realized that with all the herbs and spirits we work with at the distillery, I am practically ready to be the potions master at Hogwarts already!
Then I decided to get really goofy. Because each of our spirits has a character all their own, I decided to play the role of sorting hat and sort a few of our core spirits into Hogwarts Houses! Here’s what I came up with:
**Juniper Gin**
Hogwarts House: **Hufflepuff**
Why? With its chipper, lovable, and classy character, Juniper Gin embodies the warm-hearted, friendly spirit of Hufflepuff. This house values hard work, loyalty, and a love for tradition, much like the classic yet fresh interpretation of gin that Juniper Gin represents.
**Spruce Gin**
Hogwarts House: **Ravenclaw**
Why? Spruce Gin's elegance, thoughtfulness, and eloquence align with Ravenclaw's values. The herbal and floral notes from spruce, rosemary, and lavender suggest a level of sophistication and intellect, fitting Ravenclaw's pursuit of wisdom and knowledge.
**Cedar Gin**
Hogwarts House: **Gryffindor**
Why? With its creative, gregarious, and adaptable nature, Cedar Gin captures the bold and daring qualities of Gryffindor. This house is known for courage and bravery, and the earthy and spicy flavors with cedar wood and black currant indicate an adventurous spirit willing to embrace the unknown.
**Lake Superior Vodka**
Hogwarts House: **Gryffindor**
Why? Lake Superior Vodka's audacious and affable character suits Gryffindor's courage and boldness. Its complexity derived from three grains instead of one shows the spirit's innovative and adventurous side, akin to Gryffindor's bravery and willingness to take risks.
**Ovrevann Aquavit**
Hogwarts House: **Hufflepuff**
Why? Ovrevann Aquavit's versatile, overachieving, and enthusiastic nature aligns with Hufflepuff's work ethic and friendliness. The aromatic notes of caraway, cardamom, and citrus reflect the lively and loyal spirit of this house, demonstrating a balanced and approachable character.
**Temperance River Rye**
Hogwarts House: **Slytherin**
Why? With its resourceful, pensive, and adventurous personality, Temperance River Rye embodies Slytherin's cunning and ambition. The strong and moody flavors with plenty of vanilla and pepper notes indicate a sophisticated, intense, and daring spirit, just like Slytherins' drive to achieve greatness and make a bold impact.
